THIS TRAINING SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPED BY HENRY SCOTT, A VITICULTOR FROM OREGON (USA) IN 1970.
IT WAS DESIGNED TO IMPROVE BOTH THE QUALITY AND YIELDS OF THE VINES, IN HIGH CAPACITY, COOL CLIMATE SITES.
FROM THE CORDON, FOUR CANES EMERGE, TRAINED ALONG WIRES. THE CANES OF THE UPPER SIDE ARE TRAINED UPWARDS AND THOSE OF THE LOWER CORDON ARE ALLOWED TO FALL.
THIS GIVES THE GRAPES MORE EXPOSURE TO THE SUN AND ALLOWS THEM TO RIPEN BETTER. IT IS LABOUR-INTENSIVE AND EXPENSIVE TO SET UP. THE HIGH CURTAIN IS CONVENIENT FOR MECHANICAL HARVESTING.
